CARETAKER
The terraforming of Jupiters moon Ganymede created vast forests throughout the surface of the moon. This was done because the Earth’s atmosphere had become inhospitable to most plant life. Harvesting the resources from these forests required a large workforce - both human and robotic. Edi-tech’s bio tech division provided the solution by creating colonies of vat grown humans to work alongside the hulking B4-3r or “Bear” unit.
Each chapter of these lumberjacks would have a B4-3r unit assigned to them. The humans would spend all their days from “birth” to their “retirement” with these robots and many of the humans would imprint upon the B4-3r units, developing a great affection for them.
Over time the the B4-3r’s AI would evolve - allowing them to nurture and care for the young workers. One story tells of a “Mama” B4-3r unit that grew “feelings” so strong for her chapter she couldn’t stand to see them “retired”. Eventually that day came, and the emotion of seeing the “children” the robot had raised marched into their “retirement” containers was too great. A new breaker tripped inside the digital mind of this “Bear” and it went into a rampage, destroying the colony and escaping to the wilderness with her brood.
